Runners and chances for the weekend

After some great fields and premier racing over the past few weeks, tonight's Addington meeting takes somewhat of a backseat when compared to Alexandra Park. The Robert Dunn Stable are still well represented with 4 runners engaged. With John in Auckland, continuing his association with smart filly Venus Serena, Jason and Dexter will do the driving duties.

John looks at the stable runners:

Race 5 - Cullen's Spirit - Jason takes the reins in another crack at winning a boys' race. "Last week was his 1st stand start and he handled things well, albeit in weaker company. He did work and never shirked the task in the straight. He is a definite place chance in what is a much stronger field this week."

Race 9 - Caesar's Flame - "Last week was his first start off the unruly for a stand start. He got it all wrong so we are back off the unruly this time. There are some handy types engaged, but Jase does get on well with the horse and if he can get a drag into it then we are a place hope at huge odds".

Race 10 - Radar - "He continues to battle away honestly in his races, but the company seems to be getting stronger and stronger. He is a place chance at best in this one really".

Race 11 - Ten Too - "He is in superb form and on trial here for a trip to Auckland to take on the "big-bangers" next week. He certainly deserves the opportunity to take that next step. The 40m is always a concern, but his manners are improving all the time. Dex takes the drive and we are expecting another big run on what we have been seeing at home".

Invercargill - Sunday

There are 5 stable runners engaged on Sunday at Invercargill, with Kabet and Elios set for big runs in their respective Group Two contests.

Race 7 Kabet - "She has been set for this race for a while. She just continues to impress with everything she has done. The draw will probably work out well as clearly she is best driven with a sit. That said, she can do work as she showed in the Nevele R heat at Forbury two starts ago. Either way they will all be looking over their shoulders as she is sure to be rushing home with that trademark finish."

Race 9 Elios - "He has thrived since his run in the derby. The draw has worked out well for once and this definitely gives us options. We are really pleased with the horse and they will certainly know that he is there. We expect a huge run!"

Race 10 Hurricane Bromac - "The draw made things impossible last time. Prior to that he had produced two top wins including one on this track. There are some nice types in this race but if we can get a drag into it, we are a hope of getting some of it."

Race 12 Rome's Burning and Better Than Money - "Rome's Burning was very poor two starts ago and then went a much improved run last time after receiving a check that ruining his chances. This is a bit of a drop back in class so he must be a hope. Better Than Money was a bit disappointing last time, although it was a smart field. The draw counts against here as he likes to press forward, so he is probably a place hope at best."

John's best bet for the two meetings - "It has to be Kabet in the Oaks!"

Alex Park - tonight

As mentioned, Johnny heads north to continue what is proving an impressive partnership with the Geoff Dunn trained Venus Serena. This Mach Three filly has produced strong performances to date, with 2 wins and a second from her 4 raceday starts. She has already tasted success at Group Three level over two of tonight's rivals in Raksdeal and Rocknroll Arden. While drawn on the 2nd row in tonight's Group One Caduceus Club Fillie's Classic, she may get a good run through early, on the back of the Nigel McGrath trained Libertybelle Midfrew. With any luck in the running she must have a huge hope of emulating the performance of her half-sister Rona Lorraine, upset winner of this race in 2008.

Venus Serena impressive Addington winner at her last start heads to Auckland this week.

John has two other drives for the night, with the Kyle Austin trained Bobby Breen a chance off the front in race 1. While in Race 5 he deputises for brother Dexter, taking the reins on Sheemon who must be a live chance in the Sires Stakes Trotters Prelude.
