Johnny's weekend word

In many respects this week's Adddington and Ashburton take a backseat compared to Alexandar Park and the class acts that 4 Group One races command. Nevertheless, the stable are well reresented at both meetings, with 5 runners engaged at "The Met" on Friday evening and a further 6 at Ashburton on Sunday. John looks at their chances:

Race One - Gamblers Delight - has only had the three raceday starts, winning the 2nd of these on the course. "The draw was no help last time out and she had to o hr fair share of work. Gav takes the drive this time and with any luck she can be in this from the handy draw".

Race Five - Mashika - "Last week's victory was much improved and more like we had been expecting from her. This is a huge step up in grade however and with Adore Me in the race we are all running for the placings".

Race Eight - Piper Heidsieck and Radar. "Piper had trialled really well before his Rangiora resumtion but showed little first up. His work has been good and with a peak run he is a hope at odds. Radar continues to battle away, but as with his last few runs in this grade will need luck in the running".

Race Ten - Cullens Spirit - "He has run good races in the boys races for Jason at his last two starts. Providing he steps and gets some luck in the running he can be right in this".

Ashburton - Sunday

Race Two - Nikola - "We have been pleased with his progress to date, but he has picked a tough race to debut in. Hopefully he can utilise the draw and be running on strongly at the finish".

Race Six - Massimo -  "Wasn't far away in a fairly strong field last start. This race appears a little easier, at least on paper. He must be a place hope from the good draw".

Race Seven - Better Than Money - "Is back from a brief stint down south. Hasn't had the best of luck in his last couple of races. There are a couple of smart ones in this race, but if he runs to his ability can be in the money".

Race Nine - Montecrengle - "He definitely showed the benefit of his 1st up run, with a good victory last time at Forbury. This field is no stronger and hopefully he can do the job for the Westview Syndicate people again".

Race Eleven - Lumos and Lauramegan  - "Lumos has produced two super runs this camapign. He finished close up in a super field last start. He appears well placed to do the business this week. Lauramegan is having her first run in nearly 6 months. She has been working well and went a solid trial last week. She should derive plenty of benefit from this outing".

John heads north again on Friday in search of more Group One spoils.Venus Serena franked her Group One victory a fornight ago with another top run last Friday from a terrible draw. This week things have panned out much better and from her draw of 2 she looks set to battle things out with the Mark Purdon trained Te Amo Bromac.

John's other drives on the night are Bobby Breen in Race 7, who recorded a good victory at odds last week and stable runner Graduate Under Fire in Race 10. "The draw was never going to make things easy last week. From a handy frontline draw this week, he appears much better placed and is a definite echway chance at odds."
