All eyes turn to the jewels
Tonight's Addington meeting is a forerunner to two exciting days of harness racing this weekend at Ashburton. While the focus is clearly Ashburton and the jewels, John will also have a look for us at tonight's Addington meet.
Race 7 - Massimo. "I've actually been quite happy with his last couple of runs. He had no hope last time after getting humped wide on a cold night with a slushy track. Hopefully he steps well and the 2000m could see him as at least a place hope at odds.
Race 8 - Radar. "While he has been battling as a rule, he has been racing in much richer company than what he meets tonight. The draw makes things more difficult, but hopefully he can turn his form around with the drop back".
Race 9 - Cullens Spirit. "This horse has had no luck at all of late. Again the draw is going to make things tough over the 1950m. Hopefully he can get some luck in the running".
Race 11 - Gamblers Delight. "I had been quite pleased with this one's progress going into her last start. Nothing went right that night and she ended up choking down. Hopefully we can get a soft trip from the draw and from there, on her best form, rate an eachway hope".
Race 7 - Hurricane Bromac. "The draw has worked out well, but thats about where it ends. This is a top class field of 4yr olds dominated by Christen Me. We will be doing well to run in the top 5".
Race 8 - Return To Sender. "He is an honest wee horse and should have won last week. This is a huge jump in class. We will be trying hard, but realistically are probably outclassed".
Race 9 - Franco Nelson and Elios. "Craig was really pleased with the fresh up run of Franco Nelson and his trial at Rangiora last Saturday. He is all class, but the draw is a problem. Hopefully they go hard up front and he might get some sort of drag into it. Clearly he is up to the very best. Elios has copped an even worse draw than Franco Nelson. He will be relying on them going mad up front to utilise his great staying ability".
Outside drives for Saturday
Race 4 - Doctor Bones. "His was a terrific run last time out. He has a nice draw and I think that he is good enough to get some of it".
Race 5 - Venus Serena. "She clearly deserves her rating as the best filly in the land. She seems to have progressed well since coming back from up north and must be a massive chance again."
Venus Serena an emohatic winner at last Saturday's jewels trials.
