Day Two at Nelson

The 1st day certainly gained a pass mark with a win (I C U Darling), two 2nds (Comenche and Graduate Under Fire) and a 3rd (Piper Heidsieck). Added to that some bad luck with Lumos (a puctured tyre) and hopes are high for day two today.

Here's a snapshot of their hopes:

Race 6 - Gambler'sDelight - The draw was always going to be against on day one. Today she has drawn one and she may end up with a soft run. She will need luck however, in what is a strong field. A place hope at odds. (Fixed odds price at 9.00am - $26)

Race 7 - Sheer Class - As suggested before day one, the draw was always going to make things tough. She has a front row draw today, albeit a wide one. She was seen to be doing her best work late on Friday and should be accorded a huge chance today. (Fixed odds - $4.20)

Race 8 - Comenche - His debut run for the stable on Friday was huge. He went round, forced a strong pace and only went down late. He must be a massive hope today. (Fixed odds - $3.00)

Race 9 - Gradudate Under Fire and Piper Heidsieck - Both were good runs on the 1st day, but will be doing well to trouble Pelude winner Givethejotobarnesy which was quite stunning in victory.  As with circuit racing however, it is often a case of how well horses back up and today's 3000m adds a new diension also. Piper will be looking to win this race for a 2nd year running, while Graduate Under Fire kicked on good after working on Day One and will be improved with the run. Both are at least eachway hopes. (Fixed odss - Graduate Under Fire $4, Piper $7)

Race 10 - Lumos and I C U Darling - Well hopefully many of you got onto I C U Darling at the 9-1 odds on Friday. He was overdue his maiden victory and duly obliged. Lumos simply cannot buy luck at the moment. He went out at prohibitive odds again Friday but his chances were derailed with a puctured tyre. Today he has drawn well in (1) and no doubt Johnny will look to take advantage of this draw. If he is able to secure the lead this brings 1st day winner I C U Darling into it again, at least as a place hope. Lumos simply should be winning though! (Fixed odds Lumos $1.25 and I C U Darling $14).

Race 11 - Lauramegan - Got back on day one before getting a drag into it with cover. Loomed up 4 wide on the turn to take the lead. Only peaked on run in the last 100m, but was still a top effort. From a good draw today (1), John has many options and this filly is at least a strong eachway chance. (Fixed odds - $3.60)

Best Bet - Go Lumos again

Best Eachway - Lauramegan, Comenche

Best Longshot - I C U Darling
