Johnny's march towards the elusive 100 wins

In what has been a year of highlights for John to date, the icing on the cake would be the achievement of 100 driving wins for the 2012-2013 season. Currently sitting on 95 wins and with 10 southern meetings left for the season, it sounds a simple equation. However, of late wins have become harder to get as a result of stable runners going out for a winter spell. "We have really scaled back over the last few weeks. Even with 3 southern meetings this week we only have the 4 going around".

John has never been short on support from other South Island trainers who are more than keen to utilise his services. It may be this type of support that could prove vital in getting to the 100 mark for the 1st time. Already this season, there have been any number of highlights including:

- the success of the dual stable operation with dad Robert - (86 wins for the season as at 02/07/2013)

- surpassing his previous season best as a driver - (75 wins achieved in the 2009-2010 season)

- a fantastic association with 2yr old filly of the year Venus Serena - 8 starts for 5 wins, including 3 Group Ones, a jewels victory and 2 New Zealand records.

- topping the $1 million mark in stake-earnings for the 1st time.

John has 6 drives at Addington this Thursday evening with all 6 at least eachway prospects. He then travels to Forbury on Friday night where he has 5 drives. McCracken for his uncle Geoff Dunn appears a good chance in Race 6, while two runners for the Cran Dalgety stable in races 7 and 9 - Flying Anvil and Chanelle Bromac must also be strong hopes.

For anyone keen to utilise John's services at Timaru this Sunday, or over the remaining meetings this season please feel free to give him a yell. To achieve such a milestone would complete an outstanding season for one of the real good guys of harness racing.
