Comenche the destroyer

It is not often that a horse wins at Addington by 12.5 lengths, but that is precisely what Comenche did for Brad Williamson tonight in the 2nd heat of the junior drivers series. Taken back early from a wide draw, Williamson was able to stay out of the frenetic early pace before launching a lap out, After getting to the front at the 1000m, it was a case of "catch me if you can", as Comenche simply buried his opposition with an outstanding staying performance. The irony is that this was just the horse's 2nd win and in his 42nd race start.

After doing his early racing out of the Michael Cations stable, where he recorded one win from 19 race starts, he was then purchased by Peter and Maree Robertson and in 18 starts for them, recorded two seconds and six third placings. After having their "superstar", Montecrengle claimed at Forbury last month, the Westview Racing No 5 Syndicate were looking for a suitable replacement to keep their fun going. Along came Comenche, who in 5 starts under their ownership has now produced tonight's victory and two 2nds from just 5 starts for them and just under 8k in stakes won. Based on the authority of tonight's victory, there would certainly appear a few more thrills yet to come.
