Season drawing to a close

With just 5 South Island meetings left for the season, the chances to add to season tallies are limited. The focus for stable runners this weekend is Addington Friday night and Ashburton Sunday. John takes a look at the chances of the 6 runners engaged.

Addington Friday

Race 4 - Lionels Meddle. "He was having his 1st start for 15 months last time and went super against some very good horses. Again he meets some smart types, especially if Bit Of A Legend goes round. I think we can get some place money at least if he has improved on last week's run."

Race 5 - Comenche. "He produced a very good run last week and only went down narrowly to Hopey's one. The draw is not ideal and there are some handy horses engaged. I am expecting a big run all the same."

Race 10 - Kotare Mahal. "We expected a big run last time, so to be checked out of it early was very disappointing. Like Comenche, he gets the horror draw so will be driven looking for a bit of luck. He is fit and well and definitely a big eachway chance".

Ashburton Sunday

Race 6 - Massimo. "There are a number of very progressive types engaged here and off 10m, it makes it a bit trickey. He is a good stand start exponent all the same, so hopefully can step and put himself in it early."

Race 8 - Blazin N Cullen and Rome's Burning. "Blaze had had his share of issues before the jewels so was forced to sit that one out. He seems well, produced a good workout win last week and generally goes well in a fresh state. He is at least an eachway hope. Rome's Burning produced a good fresh up performance last week from a wide draw. He has drawn poorly again, but is a place hope if things go his way".

Best Bets

It is hard to label one really, but Comenche, Kotare Mahal and Blazin N Cullen would appear on paper to be good eachway chances at worst.
