It's "P for Purfect"

Kurow Cup day 2013, will be one firmly engrained in the memory of stable junior driver, Matthew Purvis who was recording his 1st raceday victory. Handed the reins on last season's well performed 3yr old Elios, things were never in doubt as the pair dictated things from the front all of the way. "He just jogged it", said Matt. This is quite staggering when looking at the time and sectionals. The full 2000m, on an "off" track was run in 2.26.5. The final 800m in 56.0 and the final 400m in 27.9. Things certainly bode well for the Bettor's Delight 4yr old who was recording his 5th win from just 14 starts.

Purvis, who worked for Paul Nairn for 2 1/2 years and for Greg and Nina Hope before that, has been with the Woodend arm of the Dunn stable for around 4 months. "I just love it working out at the beach and it is quite exciting with a number of the good horses coming back in over the next month or so". He has always had a keen interest in the harness game. "Yea Dad has raced a few as an owner and my granddad, Les Purvis was a stipe for many years". When asked what goals Matt had set himself for the season, his very honest response was, "to keep improving as a driver and to hopefully get on a few more on raceday". But for now, he is quite happy to just savour the moment that will hopefully herald a long and succesful career for this very affable young man.

Elios with driver Matthew Purvis, record an empahtic victory by 5 3/4 lengths.
