Hawaii here we come!
After a hectic last few months and as reward for a great season, John and the family are off for a winter break in Hawaii! John's last night of driving will be at tomorrow night's Forbury meeting where the one stable runner Lionel's Meddle is engaged.
Race 4 - Lionels Meddle. Lionel has gone 4 great races since resuming from a lengthy spell just over a month ago. He has performed well against quality opposition and nearly upset stablemate Mach Banner at Addington two starts ago. Last time out he took on a strong field in the Kurow Cup. He was obliged to sit without cover for the last lap of the race, but fought resolutely behind runaway winner Pembarton Shard. This time he steps back in company going around as a $10,000 claimer. Providing he puts his best foot forward he should be winning this race.
Race 2 - Massimo. This fella has been very consistent for sometime. He fought strongly for 3rd last time in what appeared to be a far stronger field. This is an amateur driver's event and with Ray Reekie to drive, he will be given every chance to put his foot in the till again.
Race 4 - Mr Meddle. The horse is on debut and has been taken along quietly up until now. Drawn one he is perfectly placed to get an economical run. Whatever he does 1st up, he will be all the better for the run.
Race 6 - Cabo Wabo. The formline probably says it all at the moment. From a horror draw will need a lot of luck if he is to feature.
Race 8 - Better Than Money. This is his 1st start for 3 months, however he is meeting what appears to be an average lot. Despite the wide draw, he is likely to get handy early as he possesses great gatespeed. If the race panned out well for him, he is clearly an eachway chance on his best form.
Race 9 - Blazin N Cullen, Lionels Meddle, Rome's Burning. "Blaze" was having his 1st stand start last time and will have learnt a lot from the experience. Providing he steps and is able to get a nice smother, then clearly he should figure in the finish. Providing Lionel comes through Thursday, he will go around again. With his great stand start manners, he could well lead and be hard to run down. Rome's Burning showed last time out that he still has the ability in this company given the right run. Providing he gets an ok run, he too can feature in the finish.
Race 10 - Cullen's Spirit. He got a much nicer run in his race last week and finished off strongly, indicating that he may be running back into some form. There are a couple of smart types engaged this time, so from his wide draw, place money is probably the best result this time out.
