Stable hopes for Avon City Ford Cup Night

While the Avon City Ford Cup is the night's highlight, the stable are well represented with 6 runners to go around. I caught up with Johnny to go over the chances.

Race 6 Phantom Grin and Rome's Burning. "Phantom Grin is officially a new addition to the stable, but we have had him for about a month. He's been thrown in the deep end against the good ones in his two starts so far this campaign. I think he's done a pretty good job really. His work has been good and he seems to have thrived in a new environment. He's off 20m which will make things a bit tougher for him, but he generally steps good and will definitely be some sort of hope. Rome's Burning is going better than what it appears on paper. He was going to be right in it when he broke two starts ago and then last start he botched the start. Like Phantom Grin, he normally steps good. If he gets it right, he would have to be a place hope at big odds."

Race 8 - Sleepy Tripp. (Refer article under news for his hopes).

Race 9 - Cullens Spirit, Massimo and Robyn's Raider. "By sheer weight of numbers, hopefully we'll have a good chance. Clearly Cran's colt will be very tough to beat if he can cop the stand, but I think we're in with a show. Jason (Thomas) will drive Cullens Spirit again. They've proved a good combination of late with a number of consistent runs. This is harder, but he is a place hope again. Massimo has continued to race well also. He can step and get a nice drag along hopefully. Matt Purvis will stick with him. I'm driving Robyn's Raider who is fresh up after a 6 month spell. He is a nice horse, who we expect to kick on this season. I thought his workout run for 3rd behind Sleepy Tripp was good and he is an eachway hope in this race."

Motukarara - Sunday

"We've only got the one runner in, Donegal Guest (Race 7). He's having his 1st run for us, but I have been really pleased with him. He is set to produce a real good run if we can overcome what could be a tricky draw. A definite winning hope."
