Comenche flies at Rangiora

On a day when the weather and the track were both made to order, Comenche burned over the 2000m in 2.25.0, a mile rate of 1.56.6. From his 12 starts for the stable and his owners, Westview Racing No. 5 syndicate, this 6yr old Barnett Hanover gelding has proved a model of consistency recording 3 wins and 4 seconds.

In what appeared a major drop in class when compared to his recent racing, John allowed Comenche time to find his feet early before enjoying a beautiful run in the 1-1 behind stablemate Better Than Money. When Katie Cox driving the pacemaker and favourite Simon Sivad allowed her drive to sprint from the 500m, she appeared to have the chasers flat. However, over the last 100m when John really let Comenche down, he easily mastered the leader and went on to win convincingly. "He did it pretty easy mate," was John's very honest response later on.

With a stack of racing between now and Xmas, there will be no lack of opportunities for Comenche to further add to his very good strike rate.
