Return To Sender chases Sires Stakes spot

A convincing winner last Friday night in a Super Series consolation, Return To Sender returns to the track this week taking on a good field of 3yr olds in a Sires Stakes heat. While generally competitive throughout last season, last Friday's victory was ironically the colt's maiden victory. He did it in style too, overcoming a wide draw to lead throughout, before kicking home too well in the straight.

Return To Sender coming back to the birdcage after defeating stablemate Nikola last week.

In his favour this week is the draw (1), but in balancing that out is the fact that this is a Sires Heat so is a major step up in company. The toughest to beat on paper appears to be the Cran Dalgety trained Regulus who is handily drawn in three, while southern colt Pay Me Mach is drawn to get a good run through from one on the 2nd row. If all pans out though, Return To Sender at his best is well capable of booking himself a spot in the Sires Stakes final run on cup day.

Other runners on Friday night:

Race 3 - Massimo. This wonderfully consistent Bettor's Delight 4yr old, just keeps on going quality races week after week. He will again be driven by stable junior reinsman in Matt Purvis who has developed a real affinity with the horse. The drive last week was a beauty and it was only a superb finish from Devil May Care who nabbed him close to the line. This week's field is probably of a similar quality to last week. If he can make one of his customary good beginnings, then look for him to be a big hope.

Race 5 -Kynsley Star.  This fella had his first run for the stable last week and was kept safe on the tote by punters after some promising trial form. He compounded after leading and facing a number of attackers in the running. The draw is against so probably place hopes will be best on this occasion.

Race 6 - Nikola.  Immediately showed the benefits of a better draw last time. After trailling 3 back on the fence, he was held up as his pacemaking stablemate went for home at the 300m. Once in the clear, he was really cutting into Return To Sender's lead the last bit. While he has a 2nd line draw to contend with this time, there appears a lot of speed on the inside of the front line. Drawn behind Crimson Glory, which will be one of the favourites, he may end up getting a nice run through. This Mach Three gelding is a nice cut of a racehorse and should be winning sooner rather than later. Hopefully for the Neumann's and their other partners in the horse, it will be this Friday!
