Three chase Cup Day spots in graduation heats
A chance to race on Cup Day in a Graduation Series Final is on offer for 3 stable runners today - Lumos, I C U Darling and Beaudiene Brilliance. The final to be run over 1950m is worth $20,000 and is the 2nd race on Cup Day. Entry to the final goes to the 1st four from the three heats today.
John looks at their chances and other stable hopes for the day.
Lumos - Race 4. "Will get back from his 2nd row draw, which is how we like to drive him anyway. His run last time was enormous behind Anton Oliver at Addington coming from nowhere to nab 3rd. To be fair this field is a step down from last time. Providing he get a decent enough drag into it and they go hard enough he'll be tough to roll."
I C U Darling - Race 6. "This is his 1st start for 4 months, but he seems to have come back real good. He's had a couple of workouts and a trial to top him off. If we can get a spot early on, he is definitely capable of running in the money."
Beaudiene Brilliance - Race 8. "That was a nice race 1st up for the stable at Addington. She showed good gate speed for Dex and kicked well in the straight considering it was her 1st race for months. She's come through the race well, the barrier draw suits, so she'll take a power of stopping."
Other stable runners today:
Race 2 - Cullen's Mercy. "Goes around in the amateurs for Ray. Seems well and is usually competitive in these types of races. Shouldn't need to cover a lot of extra ground from the draw."
Race 7 - Nikola. "He looks the best horse in the race on exposed form. The draw is a pain, but he has been super at his last two starts. We will need a touch of luck, but I'm sure he'll put in a good run."
Race 11 - Massimo. "Mr Consistency of the stable and gets all conditions to suit. Providing he steps and gets a good spot early there's no reason why he can't be a winning hope today."
