Surfin Swift back in business after 8 month spell

A good filly for the stable last season, Surfin Swift is finally back on the track at the Ashburton meeting after an 8 month spell. With 2 wins to her name from just the 9 race starts, she showed a ton of promise in her last campaign, but has been beset with a number of problems since then. She has had one trial and one workout to prepare her for her resumption. While she is likely to derive huge benefit from the run, it is a field that she can figure in the finish in if she is anywhere near her best. It is great for the Douglas' to finally have her back on the track.

Surfin Swift steps out in Race 9 after an injury enforced layoff from the track

Other runners in on the day:

Race 7 (Boys' Race) - Crackaheiny and Beaudiene Brilliance.

Crackaheiny's 1st up Ashburton run was enormous, finishing a close 2nd to Bio Marinus. He had a slight setback which saw him miss the Graduation series heat at Rangiora last time out. He appears over this now and from the one barrier, Jason (Thomas) should get a nice trip all going to plan. From there he will take a power of beating. Beaudiene Brilliance had no luck at all in her Graduation series heat. She was obliged to push forward early before getting the breeze and then was pushed back. She did extremely well to get going again at the end to run on for 6th. She usually has good gate speed so from a handy barrier of three is well positioned for a good trip also. Both must be strong chances in quinellas and trifectas.

Race 8 - Better Than Money.

Goes around against the "oldies" - 6yr old and older. Is clearly one of the best horses in this field and providing Tim (Williams) can get him off the markers and rolling he will be right in this. The run at Kaikoura was very good against some pretty handy horses.

Race 11 - Cullen's Mercy.

She had somewhat of an off day last time out in the amateurs. At best she is a capable mare and would be a hope to get some of it if things pan out for Johnny.
