A huge weekend in store for the stable

With no Addington meeting this week, one could easily assume that would mean a quiet weekend for the stable. However, this could not be further off the mark! With 17 runners engaged this is easily the busiest weekend for some time. We preview the Friday and Saturday meetings.

Premier Night at Alex Park

There are four stable horses engaged at Friday night's premier race night at Alexandra Park.

Race 2 - Return To Sender - He has had a wee break since the Sires Stakes final in which he placed 9th. He has come up with the "visitors draw" over the 2200m (12). He certainly has the ability to compete well in this field and added to that competed well in his two starts on the track last December. Depending on how hard they go, he is probably only a place hope this week from the draw.

Race 4 - Franco Nelson - His was a very good run last week on the grass in the Geraldine Cup. Again the draw may make things interesting early (6), but with plenty of speed inside, he should be able to slot in. It looks like the sort of race where the pace will be hot all the way so it will suit his racing pattern. He's competed well on the track previously, his only defeat in 3 starts a 3rd place behind Ohoka Punter in the Great Northern Derby.  He's a definite eachway hope.

Race 10 - Hurricane Bromac -  He was massive down south last time out winning by 8.5 lengths in 2.55.7 for the 2400m. He picks a very tough field to make his Auckland debut in - Grp 2 Pak N Save Lincoln North Franklin Cup.y  Drawn the outside of the 7 horse field, he will almost certainly be the rank outsider. A place bolter to spice up your exotics.

Race 12 - Elios - Hugely talented horse, also making his track debut. He has drawn good (4) and performed well over the cup carnival with a 1st and a 2nd in his two starts. He meets some nice types, notably the unbeaten Locharburn (6 from 6). If he's on his game, he certainly looks the biggest threat to Locharburn continuing his unbeaten streak. Like Franco Nelson, a very good eachway hope.

Oamaru - Saturday

Race 4 - Kynsley Star - A better run last time, but still way below what he's shown at home. John takes the reins this time, so if you are willing to chase your money one more time..........!

Race 6  - Blazin N Cullen and Rome's Burning -  Rome's Burning continues to battle of late and is really waiting for a "drop back" to allow him to be more competitive again. Blazin N Cullen only had the one run over cup week and was not quite himself. This looks the sort of field that he will be very competitive in . The 20m handicap may be the only thing to stop him here.

Race 7 - Robyn's Raider - Having 1st start here since Rangiora boys' race behind  Arden Rooney. The break appears to have freshened him up nicely and he had a hit-out on the grass last weekend. From the draw he's a place hope if anywhere near his best.

Race 8 - Cabo Wabo -  Returns to the track after a four month break. His form had dropped right away in his last preparation. He will need all favours in what appears a very nice C1 field.

Race 10 - I C U Darling - The form has deserted him this campaign. He meets what on paper appears to be an average field. In saying that he will need to lift his efforts and this is also his 1st stand start.
