Cullen's Mercy burns up Winton in 1.53.7

6yr old C2 mare Cullen's Mercy, franked a run of good form since joining the Robert Dunn stable, stunning a good field in a track record of 1.53.7 for the mile at today's Winton meeting. In a race that served as a heat for the Southern Belle Speed Series, she was allowed to start third favourite behind well performed mares Safedra and Here We Go Again.

A catch drive for Oamaru reinsman Matthew Williamson, she showed real zip out of the gate before assuming control at the 1400m. While the two favourites were obliged to do work wide early, Williamson kept the pressure right on, burning through a 1st half in 56.6. It was apparent at the 400m that the half sister to the well performed mare Chloe Hanover (11wins, $93,076) had the field at her mercy. On the back of a closing half in 57.1, she ran out a convincing winner by 2 lengths. Owned by her former trainer Ray Reekie, the mare has won 2 races in 6 starts for the Robert Dunn stable, with a further 3 placings. She certainly looks ready to enjoy further success being rated just a C3 mare after today's success. Williamson reflected that she, "just loved the big track," and on a personal note felt that this was his 1st winning drive for the stable.
