Elios and Franco Nelson to contest Brian Hancock Cup

On the back of an awesome performance at Menangle on Saturday evening, Franco Nelson will back up his game Interdom heat 3rd, by stepping out in the Group 2 Brian Hancock Cup this Saturday. He will be joined in this mile contest by stablemate Elios who has just arrived in Sydney.

Driver John Dunn was stoked with the run for 3rd in the Interdom Heat where from a wide draw he was obliged to go back early. With a lack of pace up front and a slow lead time, John unleashed the son of Christian Cullen a lap out. "I had no choice as they were going so slow. We had to get going otherwise we wouldn't have been able to get near them." After measuring up to the pacemaker and Victoria Cup winner For A Reason on the turn, he fought tenaciously for the length of the straight before finishing a gritty 3rd as For A Reason succumbed late to the trailling runner Mach Beauty. While declared as 1st emergency for the Interdom final, the decision was made today, to pull the pin on that race and instead he will join Elios in a joint attack on the Chariots Of Fire.

Of the two horses, Elios has been blessed with a handy draw of 4 in the first start of his Australian campaign. Franco Nelson will again have to contend with a wide draw of 9. It is likely that the McCarthy's, Luke and John, will do the driving this week with John committed to stable runners at home this weekend.

Elios makes his debut this Saturday in NSW contesting the Grp 2 Brian Hancock Cup at Menangle.
