A busy weekend worth the effort for John

It has been a good 24 hours for stable reinsmen John Dunn, with wins to two of the better horses in the stable at opposite ends of the country.

Last evening at Alexandra Park in Auckland, John reined top 4yr old Elios to an emphatic win in his dress rehearsal to next week's Taylor Mile. Brother Dexter was an unlucky 3rd in the same race, behind stable star Franco Nelson, after being late to clear traffic.  Both now look positively towards next week's group one feature over the 1700m journey and a week later to the Messenger over 2700m.

Early this morning John and Dex were winging their way south for today's Gore Harness meeting. Both walked away with the major spoils as Dexter partnered Belkmyster to an emphatic win in the C3-C5 feature and then it was John's turn as No Doctor Needed served it up to a quality field in the re-run of the Alabar Southern Supremacy Stakes. Run at group two level, No Doctor Needed dominated the race from the top throughout. On the corner it was clear that there was just the one challenger, the Purdon/Rasmussen trained favourite Messini. As game as that runner was, he was no match on the day for the big fella having just his 6th race start.

A 3yr old gelding by Mach Three out of top race mare Molly Darling, No Doctor Needed has raced up the Harness Jewels leaderboard with today's victory, now sitting in 6th place and almost certainly guaranteeing a trip to Cambridge which will no doubt please his strong band of northern owners - Steve Stockman, Alby Gain and the Plants. No doubt you will have some exciting times ahead!
