Madiba Magic breaks Rangiora track record

Until recently the great frustration of the stable, Madiba Magic showed at the last Rangiora meeting for the season that he is finally back in the zone with a record breaking performance. Driven perfectly by his now raceday driver Samantha Ottley, he was given time to find his feet early from the unruly. In a race that they never really stopped running, he recieved a nice drag into it by stablemate Lumos, before being parked for the last 600m. In what proved to be a classic 3 way finish, he was able to head stablemate Lumos and a very game Explosive Art (favourite) in a neck and nose finish.

An exceptionally well bred racehorse - Christian Cullen - Foreal - this was Madiba Magic's first win in 7 starts for the stable. He was previously trained by Tim Butt - 11 starts - 2 wins. He has been somewhat of a "work in progress" since resuming back in May. After being "binned" to the unruly, it has been a steady progression back into form. A very game second behind a nice type in Vice Consul last time out, signalled that a win was close at hand. However, it was the manner of this victory that augurs well for future assignments. A 1.56.4 MR, home in 56.4 and 27.9 is impressive at any time, let alone the last race on a cold winter afternoon.

The run by stablemate Lumos was impressive also. He had been luckless in previous assignments, but on this occasion John took luck out of play and drove him like he was the best horse. After being driven aggresively to lead down the back, he was something of a "sitting duck" in the straight, but never stopped trying. He looks a next up winner for his owners - Westview Racing No 6 syndicate.
