Friday night in review
Friday night's action at Addington earned a big tick from stable connections. While there was just the one winner - Jivin Cullen - there were a number of meritorious placings, most notably Franco Nelson in the night's feature the Avon City Ford New Brighton Cup.
On paper, it was hard to separate Lumos and Jivin Cullen in their race a C5 and faster discretionary handicap over 2600m. Ultimately the difference was the start, as Lumos scrambled away before being punched to the lead. After working early, John elected to take cover with Lumos as Dexter, driving Jivin Cullen seized on a slackening of pace up front. From there it turned into somewhat of a procession and Jivin Cullen, the higher assessed runner was too good in the run to the line.
The two runners lock horns again this Friday and compete in a very competitive line-up that includes proven performers in Arden Rooney, Vice Chairman and former US pacer Johny Rock.
Jivin Cullen (above) and Lumos (right) will both lock horns again this week.
While all of the talk after the main race of the night was about Terror To Love, Franco Nelson has lost none of his supporters booming home for third after missing away. He is the only runner to have made significant ground, being drawn wide from the 400m on the back of a 26.7 final quarter. Robert and John were both upbeat about the run and are now looking forward with great confidence to the Canterbury Classic at Group 2 level in two weeks time.
Franco Nelson looks a real force to be reckoned with in the coming weeks
In other runs from stable runners:
Highview Tommy - hung tough in his race over the 1950m, battling strongly for second behind Alta Ronaldo after doing plenty of work early.
Florin - battled on well for 5th behind Jivin Cullen.
K C Monet - was very impressive in running second behind Margarita after working hard from a shocking draw over the mile.
Pure Power - was an improving 5th behind Terror To Love
Lovemetwotimes and Raphoe - were both undone by the draws in their race. Lovemetwotimes did battle strongly after loomimg up to win at the 200m.
Sterns Arising and Return To Sender - ran strong races for 3rd and 4th respectively in the last of the night behind a very impressive Meticulous.
