The annual Kaikoura meeting has arrived and with it the chances of seven stable runners. We look at their chances.
The feature race is the the Kaikoura Cup to be run over the 2400m and at Group Two level. While possibly lacking the class edge of previous years, what this year's field has is real depth. Stable chance Jivin Cullen looks competitive with most here, but has come up with a second line draw which negates his chances somewhat. He will be driven for luck by John, but if he happened to get the gaps at the right time he could be finishing over the top of them. From their frontline draws, Franco Ledger and Jimmy Johnstone look the hardest to beat.
The other feature of the day is the PGG Wrightson Sales Series pace at Listed level. The two stable chances - Graduate Under Fire and Sterns Arising have favourable front-line draws and with their good stand start manners are likely to be given every chance to shine. In a race bereft of a real standout chance, they are both at least good place hopes at good odds.
An exciting prospect in the lower grades is debutante runner Little Rascal. Bought out of the Craig Kennedy stable recently, after shining at the trials he has really impressed the stable. A nice workout win at last week's Rangiora workouts has topped him off perfectly. He looks certain to start a well supported runner and is one to follow over the next couple of months.
Of the other stable runners competing on the day:
Race 4 - Highview Freddy. Meets a field in which he should be very competitive. He has been very consistent this campaign.
Race 5 - Price Of Fame. Has been very good in three starts for the stable and is sure to give a good sight in this field.
Race 10 - Cullen's Mercy. Depending on what run she gets from her second row draw, she can certainly be a factor. Up to most here.
Jivin Cullen flies the flag for the stable in this year's Kaikoura Cup.
