A great start to premier night

The first two races at tonight's premier meeting at Alexandra Park were dominated by stable runners All Royal Gal and Little Rascal.

All Royal Gal showed on the track last week that a winning turn was not far away, running on for a strong third. It always appeared that the step up to the 2700m was going to suit tonight and so it proved. Given a soft run three back on the markers by driver John, a huge gap on the markers opened turning for home. She soon put paid to any of her opponents, going on for a comfortable win by 3/4 length in 3.31.4 for the 2700m.

Tonight's win was the third of her career for owners Ian and Alan Neumann. She sits just outside the top 12 on the jewels leader-board, but in her cuurent form may still make the cut.

A little over 25 minutes later, it was the turn of stablemate Little Rascal. A slightly disappointing run as a leader last week saw a change in tactics tonight as the 3yr old Panspacificflight gelding was given time to find his feet early. As soon as the pace slackened up front, John was on the job sending the Ian Dobson owned runner round to the breeze with a lap to go. After mastering the pacemaking Crocket's Cullen on the turn he powered clear at the 200m and had enough in reserve to hold on by a neck from a late finisher in Love Is A Drug. To add merit to the winning run was a very smart time of 2.39.8 for the 2200m.

Tonight's win was the third from just 15 starts for this very conistent 3yr old. Throw in a further six placings and he has rarely been far away. He now looks almost certain to be there on jewels day if connections choose to go down that path.

Little Rascal does it tough over the last lap but holds on in an impressive 2.39.8!
