Westview celebrating success

For those that know Westview Syndicate principal Nigel Armstrong, you will know that he loves celebrating success. It was a great initiative by Nigel then by to capture the festive spririt and get a number of his "Westview people" along to the Yaldy last evening to recognise some of this success.

Nigel's Westview syndicates are a few years old now and he is up to syndicate number 14 with the latest acquisition Mach Cruiser, a winner at Motukarara two weeks ago. By and large things have gone well with last season a record one with 15 winners for the Westview colours, most notably Geisha Girl now fashioning a handy record in North America.

In a way it was Geisha Girl (Yoho) that was responsible for last night's gathering. Bought out of the Lincoln stable of Kerry Hadfield after five minor placings, Geisha Girl won first up for the syndicate at Westport, ran fourth there two days later and won at Reefton on December 30. Those efforts earned her owners  a  $5000 bonus for the  best performed horse on the West Coast Christmas circuit, a bonus put up by Dave McHugh and the Yaldy.

After briefly losing form after Oamaru, Geisha Girl was transferred to the Pukekohe stable where she won a further three races before her sale to the USA, where she continues to race well.

Nigel felt that it was appropriate that as Dave had put up the West Coast bonus, then it was a good excuse for syndicate manners to reciprocate his generosity with their clientele at his fine establishment.

On the night there were syndicate members in attendance that have been in the various horses races by Nigel, including the two current stars in Living Legend (Budd) and Mach Cruiser (Cruiser), that are both being set for this year's West Coast circuit.

It was great to meet some of the syndicate members on the night and see the passion that many share for this great industry. A big thanks to Nigel for doing his bit to further promote harness racing in Canterbury.

Thanks to Dave McHugh and the Yaldy for the kind hospitality for a successful Westview event!
