Donegal Jimmy Dave has that winning edge

While today's win came a week later than perhaps was expected, it was a great tonic for both Donegal Jimmy Dave and driver Alan Edge. Confidently expected to win at Addington a week ago, the Edge/DJD combo had an unfortunate altercation with the mobile barrier that saw both hit the deck and heading home nursing wounds.

Eight days is a long time in racing and both horse and driver were on song in today's race for the amateur reinsmen. Allowed to find his feet early, Donegal Jimmy Dave was sent to the lead by Edge at the 1300m. While he faced some pressure down the back straight, the favourite looked to be travelling better than most heading for home. Held up for as long as he could, Edge asked the Ohoka Arizona 5yr old for his best at the 200m and he kicked hard and was easily able to hold out the late challenge of the second placed Taylah's Girl.

While generally competitive in the intermediate grades, Donegal Jimmy Dave can sometimes be a bit in and out with his form. However, a good 4th at Addington 10 days ago signalled that he  was ready to fire and so it proved.

Today's win was his 5th from 40 starts for owners J. Fanselow and R.J. McDonald. With a further 10 placings he has now earned stakes of $34,331. He will be easy to place in his upcoming assignments over the Xmas and New Year period.
