Boxing Day review

Westport

Race One - Windfall: A really nice run for second. He copped a little bit of interference early before settling about 4 back on the outer. He made his run from about the 700m to get outside the pacemaking winner Bolting. Challenged hard in the straight and looks a winner in waiting over the next couple of days.

Race Four - Eilish Aimee:  Got it all wrong early on and was never in the race. She had an excuse though as she was stirred up by others at the start. Trotted well after losing chance. Look for better manners over the next couple of days.

Race Six - Extra Guinness: A nice run after doing work. Had to go back early from the wide draw and then worked around to breeze. Sat outside the eventual winner Franco Exeter and kicked hard for his third placing. Should be hard to beat throughout the remainder of the circuit.

Race Seven - Cullect A Guinness, Living Legend and Mach Cruiser. Cullect A Guiness was simply too big too strong. Will be the one to beat at Reefton on Wednesday. Living Legend went a good race, enjoying the trail until near the turn. The pacemaking Smithy stopping on him made it hard but he fought hard for third. Should be tough to beat at Westport on Monday. Mach Cruiser ran on out wide after again getting too far back. Needs to step better to put itself into the race.

Race Ten - Music. Slow away but was then able to work nicely into the race. Led over the last lap and looked winner on the turn. Gunned down late by The Smoocha. John thought his run was super. Should be hard to beat on day two, especially if he can get away on terms with them.

Ashburton

Race Two - Kotare Kasai. Did chips in at the start with gallop. Race won in 1.54 so never in it after that.

Race Three - Mr Meddle and Little Lion Man. Mr Meddle blazed the gate early and ended up with a nice trail. Through to second at the 100m, but just battled the last bit for 5th. Little Lion Man settled back and ran home really strongly for 3rd in first start for 6 months. A very encouraging effort.

Race Four -Kotare Yael. Stepped well and enjoyed a nice run throughout. Issued strong challenge in straight but forced to bow to a superior one on the day. A nice second all the same.

Race Six - Bite The Bullet. Another strong run, but ultimately beaten by the draw. Looked winner on the turn, but beaten by one that had enjoyed a better run. Must get win soon.

Race Eight - Dalness Xchange. Got well back from the draw, but was seen to be running home with real purpose for her 4th placing. A very nice run.

Race Ten - Cullens First Meddle. Trailed three back throughout. Paced roughly and broke at the 400m, losing her chance.
