Quest For Fame gets the job done at Manawatu

Taking a team to Manawatu is a new thing for the Robert Dunn stable, but they enjoyed instant success yesterday afternoon with Quest For Fame recording a convincing maiden win.

An Art Major 3yr old, Quest For Fame was having his 5th race start yesterday. While the raceday form was poor, a really good workout win a couple of weeks ago saw some confidence going into this assignment.

Away fast off the gate, Quest For Fame was able to lead comfortably early for driver Matt Purvis and controlled the race from the top throughout. Coming to the turn and there looked only one serious threat, the trailling horse in Mystic Potion. However, Quest For Fame was always travelling well within himself and kicked away to record a convincing two length victory over a latecomer in Cordelia, with Mystic Potion holding onto third.

A race later and stablemate Janices Cullen also went a good race. Taken back off the gate early, she was sent forward with just over a lap to go to get to the parked position, where she ended up coming to the turn for the last time. Turning for home and Janices Cullen was trying her best to match the pacemaking Maldini, but over the last 100m, the run eventually told and she went to the line one and a half lengths adrift of that runner. This was a much improved run and from a better draw tomorrow, she must be a super winning chance.

The other runners on the day in Windfall, Donegal Jimmy Dave and Mr Meddle had little go right and look for better runs from all of these on the second day.
