Front-running win for Robbie Burns

A horse that has long been tagged by Robert as an open-class performer of the future, Robbie Burns has had his share of problems throughout his career with both injury and sickness. However, in this latest campaign the camp have been a lot more optimistic about the Live Or Die 4yr old and last night at Alexandra Park he showed his real ability with a dominant win in the hands of John.

While on paper, last night's field did look a handy lot, John pushed the go button early on, using his good barrier to best effect and going straight to the front. Once there, he always looked to be travelling comfortably and it was pretty much an uncontested lead throughout. Coming to the 800m and John allowed Robbie Burns a bit more rein and immediately you could see that he had most behind him struggling. The only threat if any was Arden's Choice that was sitting on his back, but as soon as they hit the home straight, you could see that it was a forlorn chase for all behind him as Robbie Burns strolled to the line to win by two lengths in a handy 2.43.1 for the 2200m. The home sectionals of the 800m in 55.2 and the 400m in 27, were evidence of why there were no runners getting close.

Providing he comes though the race well, there will be no shortage of opportunities for him over the next month or so, to really fulfill that talent that he possesses. It was a great reward for his very patient owners in Ross and Angela Gordon, who enjoyed success earlier in the week with another stable runner in Quest For Fame.
