All Royal Gal provides weekend highlight for stable
The consistency of All Royal Gal in recent starts was rewarded in style at Alexandra Park on Friday evening. While she was stepping up in company in Friday night's Northern Trotting Breeders Stakes, the important thing was that she was able to start off the frontline and was able to step and secure a handy spot throughout. Importantly in the context of the race, she trotted to the front early, before handing up the front to stablemate Whitney.
The winner of this race theee years ago, Whitney began brilliantly from her 20m handicap and was in front after 400m. She was able to freewheel in front for driver Jack MacKinnon keeping up a strong pace throughout. While attended to her outside by the second favourite Paramount Dream, from the 1700m, she always looked to be travelling comfortably. As the field approached the 400m, Paramount Dream levelled up to Whitney momentarily. However, as soon as asked for her effort Whitney responded and put a small break on the chasers coming into the straight. All the while though it was All Royal Gal that looked as though she would have something to offer and once into the passing lane she extended, moving up to Whitney and then easing past over the last 100m by one and a quarter lengths in 3.33.4 for the 2700m. The closing sectionals of a last 800m in 57.7 and the 400m in 28.1, made it too difficult for anything to come from the back.
Friday's win, the 6th of her 56 start career, also doubled as a Group Three win. She has done a really nice job for owners Alan and Ian Neumann, taking her stakes won to over the $94,000 mark.
Whitney lost no supporters in defeat, recording another placing and fighting all the way to the line. Surely a winning turn will come her way soon.
