Franco Nelson to make a return this Friday
Tomorrow evening will mark the resumption in the Robert Dunn stable of proven Group One star in Franco Nelson. Franco Nelson has been back with the stable for about a month and has pleased John enough with his progress since returning. With the fact that he had been racing against the best in Australasia before returning home - Victoria Cup and Hunter Cup - he hasn't taken a lot of work to get back to racing trim. That said he will be benefitting from the run.
Tomorrow's resumption is a C5-OC handicap over the 2600m. Able to draw only the five runners, chances are that it may turn out to be a rather tame affair.
The race is also the first start from the stable for Mighty Flying Mac that has joined the stable in the last few weeks. Formerly trained at West Melton by Cran Dalgety, it was felt that a change of scenery may be what the horse needed to return to his very best form that included a win in the Hannon Memorial back in September. John has been very happy with his progress and expects a big run this week.
"He is a lot more forward than Franco Nelson and based on what they are both doing at home, he could well have an edge tomorrow night."
Safely through the race, both horses will take their place in next Saturday evening's Easter Cup.
