Say My Name to make comeback on Friday
Good enough to compete against the very best two year olds of his year, Say My Name's three year old career was cut short by injury in February 2015. When he returns to racing this Friday at Addington, it will be some 13 months since he has raced.
"He was trialling up super back in October as we pointed him towards the big Sales Series pace at Kaikoura. Unfortunately he struck a problem and we were forced to pull the pin."
Say My Name has been brought up quietly since the start of the year and John has been impressed with what he he has seen ahead of his resumption this week.
The horse went to the workouts at Methven on Saturday and was a nice winner in 3.07.8 for the 2300m mobile, running home in 59.5 for the last 800m.
While he will improve with whatever he does this Friday, he is sure to go a good race. Matt Purvis will partner the horse in the junior drivers event after Craig Smith who was originally booked for the drive broke his elbow the other day in trackwork.
"I'm gutted for Craig," said John. He's amazing really. He broke his elbow, went to the hospital and got put in plaster and then was back to feed up that night. He hasn't missed a day since."
