Its time to play the Music
Lis Mara 5yr old Music has always been a handy horse, but at Forbury Park last night he turned into superhorse, shattering the track radio over the 2200m trip.
On somewhat of a nondescript night racing wise, Music was the star of the show as he dealt to a handy field of C2 pacers, while running a stunning 2.38.5 for the 2200m. He enjoyed a nice sit early on, three back on the outer, but inside the last lap, driver Dexter Dunn was off quickly assuming the top from pacemaker Russian Express that got windburn in the process. At the end of the backstraight Music was out to a lead of three to four lengths with only Crackabella making a serious fist of running him down. However, while Crackabella did a good job of eroding the advantage over the last 200m, Music always had the race in safekeeping and went to the line a comfortable winner by three quarters of a length.
Good enough to run in the 2014 New Zealand Derby for owner Greg Brodie and former trainer Bruce Negus, Music has generally been competitive through the grades. Last night was the horse's 7th win from 57 starts, his 4th since coming under Robert and John's guidance,
His time easily eclipsed the former track record of 2.39.8 held by Ballindooley. In this sort of form he should be easy to place over the comimg weeks.
