John to make his Palmerston North debut
He's tasted success in a number of big races over the past few seasons, but tonight will be John's first foray to the Manawatu. There are four stable runners engaged tonight at the Manawatu and all appear to have good prospects.
"They do all look to have very good chances," said John. "In saying that I've talked to Dex and a few of the other boys who have driven up there and they say that it is not always that straightforward. I will be disappointed if we can't win a couple up there anyway."
Probably the best chance tonight may be The Royal Garden in Race 9.
"He hadn't had a lot of luck in some good Canterbury fields so I sent him down to Forbury last time. He got a good trip for Dex, but I did think that it was a good effort in beating Nathan's one, Statham."

Tomorrow night, John is back driving at Alexandra Park. There are a number of good stable chances on the night, with Cherry Bay, a Westview syndicated horse an interesting runner.
"Davey Butt had her before we got her but she was not good going our way round down home. He asked me if I wanted her, I spoke to Nigel (Armstrong) and he was happy to syndicate her. We immediately sent her up north to Robert and he has been stoked with her progress."
While drawn well tomorrow night, John's biggest concern in regards to the fillies debut was in fact the draw.
"Its probably the worse draw for her actually," said John. "She can get a bit rough early on and she has only had the two trials so I won't be pushing her too much early. She's got a motor though and she should be an early winner soon enough."
Living Legend is another Westview newcomer in terms of racing at Alexandra Park.
"He seems to have settled in well up there, but it is never easy first up. It's actually not a bad field."
With a dropback now to C1, it should not be long before Living Legend returns to the winners circle.
