Canterbury Classic night at Addington
Just as it was a fortnight ago for the New Brighton Cup, tonight's Canterbury Classic looks another belter of a race with all of the big hitters involved. Stable rep for the Robert Dunn stable is Franco Nelson and after two good wins in quality company the last two starts, confidence levels are high in the camp for another big run.
As had been well documented going into the Group Three a fortnight ago, manners are often the key in these type of events and it was Franco Nelson and Christen Me that were the big winners on that occasion after leading (Christen Me) and trailling (Franco Nelson). Both horses look to be huge chances again. Franco Nelson has done well with his work since that night and appears to be well enough suited by the draw again, in barrier seven, where potentially he can step and cross, before choosing which runner to hand up to. There will be others with similar ideas though and with noted good stand start proponents in Mossdale Conner and Christen Me inside him, Franco Nelson will need another Johnny Dunn special early on.
The All Stars stable reps of Lazarus, Have Faith In Me and Smolda provide a daunting challenge and will be a lot more forward than a fortnight ago. Have Faith In Me was especially good on that occasion running some incredible sectionals after being slow. Another that also produced some sharp sectionals was Locharburn which after missing away, was sent around the field to occupy the death seat for the last mile. He only flagged late in the piece and may be the forgotten runner. All in all, all the ingredients are there for a great race.
There are five other runners for the night for the stable, starting with Living Legend in Race One. He has been a bit off his game of late and has drawn badly, but did work well on Wednesday ahead of tonight. While he needs a lot of luck, he is at least a place hope on his best form.
Cmeerock contests a Super Series final in Race Three. She was super last time out and gets a great marble tonight. While she meets some accomplished opponents, with a peak effort she will be very hard to beat at big odds.
Jag's Invasion in Race Five won first up, but just battled last time in a fast run race. On his day he is competitive in this company and a place hope anyway.
The final two chances for the night are Kotare Yael and Dalness Xchange in Race Six. Kotare Yael won courtesy of a great drive from Gavin Smith last time. He is a big hope again. Dalness Xchange has drawn well and should lob a nice sit. She appreciates a strong clip and if she gets the race run to suit she is a winning hope also.
