Alta Orlando produces super run at workouts

While he has been off the racetrack for going on two years, former age group star Alta Orlando looked like a star of today in his resuming run at today's Rangiora workouts.

The Courage Under Fire 5yr old has been in work for some time, but today was his first public appearance in 23 months. Driven by Ross Houghton, Alta Orlando enjoyed a nice trail throughout on the back of top trotter Sheemon, before having too much speed in the straight to win in an impressive 2.26.7 for the 2000m, home in 57.2 for the last 800m, the last 400m in 28.6. A resumption on Cup Day now beckons for Alta Orlando, which will go in fresh up for that asignment.

Another runner impressive in the workout was 4yr old mare American Tart, driven by John. She was hard on the back of Alta Orlando throughout and found the line super, a further one and a half lengths away. She will also resume on Cup Day. In the same workout, Letspendanitetogetha was unplaced.

Franco Nelson did everything expected of him and proved too good for his opposition in a C1-OC event, winning over the 2600m from the stand in 3.19.8, home over the last 800m in 57.2 and the last 400m in 28.0.

"He will go to Kaikoura for the cup now," said John.

"After Kaikoura, I will make a call on whether we head to Perth also after the New Zealand Cup."

Highview Freddy was first up and produced a nice run for third.

Other runners on the day included:

Woodstone - placed second in the unqualified trot

Santanna Girl - placed second in an unqualified pace over 2000m mobile. Pretty Janice was unplaced in the same workout.

Dalness Arizona - first in unqualified 2000m mobile.

Freedom Fighter - first in CO 2000m mobile.
