Wednesday trials produce three qualifiers for the stable
On what was a long day of trials at Rangiora on Wednesday, the stable produced three qualifiers in Pretty Janice, Santanna Girl and Dalness Arizona.
Pretty Janice and Santanna Girl both ran in Heat 4 and ran second and third respectively behind Tiger Bromac from the Michael House stable.
Pretty Janice is a three year old filly by Christian Cullen out of Enchanting, making her a half sister to former NZ Derby winner in Captain Peacock. Owned by Bevan and Keith Grice, she paced the 2000m in 2.33.8, nearly 2.5 seconds under the qualifying mark.
The other qualifier from that heat from the Robert Dunn stable was Santanna Girl, another three year old filly. By Santanna Blue Chip, she is the first foal out of Holmes Adios, a one win mare when trained by Lindsay Kerslake. Owned by Martin and Shirley Cummings and the Eight Amigos syndicate, she also qualified comfortably in 2.34.1, for stable junior drive Luke Whittaker.
Two heats later and it was the turn of Dalness Arizona a three year old Ohoka Arizona gelding, out of Impacts Dream. He is the same family as Dalness - one win, Dalness Xchange - five wins from 24 starts to date and Dalness Mac - three wins from 10 starts. Owned by the Kings, he finished 4th in his trial, qualifying in 2.35.6 for the 2000m.
There were some other good runs from stable runners on the day also notably:
- Freedom Fighter in the C1 mobile over the 2000m in 2.33.6, a winner by two lengths in 2.33.9, home his last 800m in 58.3 and the last 400m in 27.8.
- Alta Orlando narrowly beat home stablemate American Tart in the C2 and faster mobile over the 2000m in 2.31.5. The two led and trailled throughout and there was a slender nose in favour of Alta Orlando. He continues to take huge strides as he nears his comeback to the races.
