Robbie Burns bounces back in style
A convincing winner of the Te Awamautu Cup first up, Robbie Burns was disappointing second up in the Holmes DG, However, on Friday night at Alexandra Park, he was a good winner over the 2700m in a smart 3.21.4 for the 2700m stand.
Starting from the unruly and from 25m behind, Robbie Burns stepped well and enjoyed a nice run throughout in initaially a one out three back position and then in the one one from the 1000m. John launched him with his run down the back and coming to the turn he and pacemaker Arden's Choice were locked together. Once in the straight though, Robbie Burns quickly asserted his dominance going clear to win comfortably by a length over Arden's Choice, with favourite Hughie Green a further one and three quarters of a length away.
This was the Live Or Die 5yr old's eight win from just 26 race starts, in what has been an injury troubled career. His stake earnings are now over the $86,000 mark for his owners Ross and Angela Gordon.
While there was some temptation to come south for the upcoming cup week at Addington, Robbie Burns will instead stay in the north, with his target the Auckland Cup to be run on New Years eve.
