Bite The Bullet digs tough to win Kurow Cup

Bite The Bullet took another step towards the better classes today at Oamaru, with a tough victory in the Kurow Cup. Able to assume the lead early in the race, he staved off a mid-race challenge from the favourite James Dean and dictated terms thereafter. He had enough in the tank over the last 100m to hold off the fast late finisher in New Years Jay.

Good enough to place sixth in the 2015 Sires Stakes won by Lazarus, Bite The Bullet went on to record a further three wins in his three year old season, before forced out with injury. He was away from the track for 14 months before making a winning resumption at Addington at the end of June. Today's win is his third in this campaign, after a win at Oamaru a fortnight ago and takes his record to the six wins from 28 starts, with over $50,000 now in stake-earnings.

Now a five year old, Bite The Bullet is lightly raced and as a result, there should be plenty of scope for him to go on and achieve further victories. He is certainly racing in great fettle and is a very versatile horse in his races, winning at his last start after coming from well back in the field.

Today's win is the third for the stable for the season and is John's 5th driving success after bringing up career win 900 on Friday evening.
