Auckland Cup day and some great Alexandra Park fields
Today is the traditional Auckland Cup day in the harness ranks and the stable are well represented with a number of nice chances. These include Alta Maestro that will contest the yearling sales pace for the three year olds, while Yagunnakissmeornot (in picture) is well drawn in the National Trot, also at Group One level. There are a host of other chances in the supporting events.
Alta Maestro takes on a tough field of three year olds in the Yearling Sales Pace, with the new star Chase Auckland set to start at prohibitive odds. Alta Maestro disappointed last time at the Park, but is a much better horse than what he showed on that occasion. He is well drawn and looks sure to be the one to test likely leader King Of Swing for the early lead. Driver John Dunn is happy with his progress.
"He seems good again now, but its not going to be easy, there are some pretty smart three year olds about at the moment."
Certainly on his best performances, Alta Maestro would be the one to really spice things up in this line-up.
Yagunnakissmeornot has come up with a great draw of the ace in the National Trot. She got home very well in the lead-up a fortnight ago. She is certainly a different horse when she gets back to Alexandra Park and looks set to do no work on the rails all of the way. Providing they go hard, she is at least a place hope in what looks quite an even field in the Group One. Already the winner of 16 races on this track, if there was to be an upsetter in the race, look no further than her, with Blair Orange to drive.
Gupta's Cullen is a newcomer to the stable in Race Four after having done a great job previous for Jonny Cox. She has been a winner in premier company on the track before and comes up ideally drawn in barrier four. She has had little go her way this time in, but if she gets any luck in the race today, she looks a good eachway hope.
Wrangler goes around in Race Six and has been in good touch his last few. Today though, he draws the outside of the second line and that makes his task that much harder. With a drag into it, he is still a place hope.
Kotare Cullen contests Race Seven, the Sires Stakes for the three year old fillies. She was super in running second behind Hail Christian last time on the track, but her task is that much harder from today's wide draw. She is a filly of real promise though, so don't count her out. She could be an outside place hope at some nice odds.
Another girl which has been racing well on the track and looks a great chance today is American Tart in Race Nine. She did a power of work in the Queen of Hearts here last time, yet still stuck on for a very meritorious 4th. She draws the second line today, but things could still work out quite well for her from there. She is a definite eachway chance at some very juicey odds today.
