Anytime steps up in Nevele R fillies heat

At what was just her 4th race start at Methven today, Anytime stepped up bigtime beating home a nice field of fillies in Heat Two of the Nevele R Fillies heats. This has completed a good weekend for stable fillies, with Kotare Cullen winning the first heat at Alexandra Park on Friday.

A wet track after heavy run overnight rain robbed today's heat of the two star fillies Bettor Joy and Dizzy Miss Lizzy, both late scratched. With just a six horse field to go around, it was stablemate De Lancome that went out as favourite.

Anytime showed some good gatespeed to go to the early lead and with two of the six starters making early mistakes, she was able to enjoy an uncontested lead. With a full head of steam heading for home, she immediately put a couple of lengths on her opponents, but was all out over the last 50m, as an early mistake maker Lilac Star came booming home, beaten by a nose.

A full sister to the well performed Micky Gee, Anytime has done a great job for Wendy Nordqvist in a very short time.

De Lancome never appeared happy in the conditions and was beaten seven lengths in 5th place.

The other good performance today was from Summer Weath in the last. Able to lead over the last 1600m, Summer Wealth looked home for the money on the turn, but peaked on his run late, getting gunned down by Back In Black that had enjoyed a trail throughout.

On Friday night at Alexandra Park, Kotare Cullen was at her best, dealing to a nice field of fillies in the first of the Nevele R fillies heats.

Just like stablemate Anytime today, Kotare Cullen was able to burn off the gate to lead. She faced some initial pressure, but John was able to dominate from the front. Able to get away with a 29.5 second quarter down the back, she was set alight from the 400m and turning in had put three lengths on the chasers. While she was all out to hold on from third favourite Gold Orchid, she held on by a half head, courtesy of a 27.9 final quarter.

Kotare Cullen is also lightly raced, this her second win coming at just start six of her career. The first foal out of the unraced Kotare Yedo, she is a high paced filly and shows that she will not be far away from the best of her sex in some of the upcoming features.

It was a mixed night for stable runners with a Gupta's Cullen second the best return. Yagunnakissmeornot got home well from her 40m mark in the night's main trot after having to do too much over the 2200m sprint trip.
