Two great chances in today's Rangiora Classic

The in form Alta Orlando (in picture) and Billy Badger represent a pair of great chances in today's Rangiora Classic. They look sure to be amongst the best supported chances come start time.

Billy Badger ended a long drought between wins at Addington last week. He had produced multiple placings before that win and you could not help be impressed by the manner in which he dealt to the favourite on that occasion, in a smart 3.10 for the 2600m.

Today Billy Badger is the best drawn of the more favoured runners and again partnered by Dexter Dunn, he is likely to get a good run throughout. One of the toughest to beat in the race is likely to be the stablemate Alta Orlando.

Alta Orlando has been in career best form of late and really showed some grit to deadheat with Eamon Maguire at Addington last time. He was a useful fifth in the Easter Cup the start previous, after having beaten More The Better three starts ago. The beauty with him is that driver John Dunn has so many options. If the pace backs off at any stage, he is tough enough to go around and sit parked. If the pace is on throughout, he can be saved up for one run and come over the top of them.

There are no shortage of other chances in the race though, with the Brad Mowbray pair of Tiger Thompson and Delishka most prominent amongst these.

The first two stable runners of the day today are Johnny White and Every Option in Race Four. Johnny White has raced well in Canterbury since coming south and has produced two good runs in his last two starts. He cops a better draw today and looks the better of the pair. Every Option was better last time and also gets a frontline draw from which he could be prominent. He is a place hope at odds here.

Awesome Speed and Anytime complete the stable represenation for the day in Race Ten. Aewsome Speed impressed with some real toughness last time out to register her maiden win. She is drawn wide out again, but is sure to be put into the race at some stage and is at least a place hope. Anytime was very good last time behind Dibaba, but again cops a wide draw. She can do work in her races though, so if she can get any sort of luck, she should not be written off in what is an even lot.
