The season continued on a good note for the stable over the weekend, with wins at Addington - Alta Orlando and Rangiora - Every Option.
Alta Orlando has been the Autumn star for the stable and his win against a good field on Friday was his 4th from his last five starts. From the unruly over the 1950m, Alta Orlando settled in the last couple early on and was still well back before being sent forward with his run from the 1000m. He quickly worked his way to the parked position outside pacemaker Buster Brady, at the 600m, before taking the lead upon turning for home. After the work that he had done in the running he was clearly susceptible to the trailling runners and first Pat's Delight and then Billy Badger came after him hard. But again, he showed too much toughness to hold on from Billy Badger by a half length, with a head back to Pat's Delight in third.
Alta Orlando's win was his 10th from just 37 starts. Billy Badger was really good again in running second and has turned into such a competitive and genuine horse this campaign.
Later on in the evening and Heisenberg and Stars Tonight both produced competitive runs in finishing 4th and 7th in the PGG Final for the two year olds. Heisenberg's run was particulary impressive after running in the parked position for the trip.
A race later and De Lancome went down narrowly after doing plenty of work over the last lap, while Kensington Kate ran on for 4th in the same race getting home well late.
Today at Rangiora and Every Option was a deserving winner over the 2600m, behind the mobile. After finding the early lead for driver Dexter Dunn, he was able to get away with some soft sectionals, including a soft quarter down the back. At the 400m, he looked the one to beat as Dexter started to ask him to do his best. Having kicked and finding a length at the 200m, he was all out over the last 100m as the late challenges came from Take After Me - trail and a swooper in Hez Fast And Furious, but held on for the win by a head, with a neck away to the third placed runner.
Every Option is owned by Harry and Mrs Webber and today's win was his third from 21 starts, after winning his first two out of the Mark Smolenski stable.
Other notable runs today included Awesome Speed - third in Race Seven and Hayden's Meddle - second in Race Nine.
