First day winners to do battle

First day winners to do battle

It was the three year old fillies Feel The Money (in picture) and Monkey Princess that did the honours for the stable on day one at Nelson. Today those two promising fillies will do battle in the last of the day. But before that, there are six other runners with chances of adding to the weekend winning tally.

Monkey Princess was having her first southern start on Friday and was confidently backed on the tote. After enjoying a nice run throughout, she went forward from the 600m, was challenging on the turn and then kicked strongly to hold out the late challenge of runner-up Rafa Novak. She is drawn awkwardly today and will need some luck to feature, but does look a good filly moving forward.

Feel The Money came out of racing the best fillies in the country at her two previous starts and was simply too good for a field of R52 and R62 pacers. She went forward from the 1600m to lead for Matt Anderson, dominated a strong tempo from the top and was simply too good, going to the line with seemingly more to offer. She has done a great job for the Westview Super Seventeen and Witches of Westview syndicates and just loves it here in Nelson. She does meet a couple of well credentialled ones today, but in her current form and with the in-form driver, looks super hard to beat again.

Onedin Express was much improved on day one and gets a perfect draw here for Matt Anderson in Race Five. There are a few here that have had their chances in the past, so he looks as good a chance as any.

Another great chance for Matt is Kensington Kate in Race Seven. There is no more consistent runner than her and she does deserve win two of her career. Matt is sure to put her into the race at the right time.

Johnny White is another due a win and goes around in Race Eight. Things didn't really go his way on the first day, but he is much better than that and is a great each-way hope again.

Wrangler was a good second on Day One and looks to turn the tables on Cole Porter in the cup, Race Eight. In John's words, "we were beaten fair and square on the first day, but he will definitely improve on the run."

The final runner is Borntobeastar in Race Ten. Her's was an encouraging run on the first day and any improvement today she can get a piece of this.
