De Lancome opens season account for the stable

Four year old mare De Lancome has had little luck in her recent starts, plagued by a series of poor barrier draws. But on Friday night, from a handy draw and courtesy of a great drive by Ben Hope, she was too good for a field of mares over the 1980m.

Off the gate strongly, De Lancome ended up in a super one-one spot early. While we generally expect a number of moves in the junior drivers races, on this occasion, running spots remained the same virtually throughout. De Lancome had the back of the breeze horse Better Decision which had breezed throughout.

Heading past the 400m, she was eased out to get busy with her run. Turning in pacemaker Be Mine Tonight kicked and momentarily looked to have them covered. However, once in the clear, De Lancome really let down and finished too strongly, going away a one and a half length winner at the line over Be Mine Tonight in 2.30.6 for the 1980m. The last 800m was run in 58.4, while they blitzed home the last 400m in 26.8.

The first foal to race out of the outstanding mare Lancome, De Lancome was recording win two of her 24 start career and takes her stake-earnings to over the $30,000 mark.
