Methven Cup Day
Today is Methven Cup Day and we have two stable runners engaged in Billy Badger and Zadaka. Neither have had the best of luck of late, but admittedly have been racing in the best of company.
Robert was particularly taken with the run of Billy Badger in last week's Canterbury Classic.
"It was an odd sort of race and nothing more than a sprint home really."
"I thought that he went very well considering he was the only one in the race to do any work."
"He should get his chance from the handicaps today providing he steps."
Zadaka is the other stable rep in the race. He is even better placed than Billy Badger off the frontline and Robert is very hopeful that he can step and get a good trip.
"He has never got into the race the last two starts off even terms and it has been hopeless trying to make any ground on those good ones coming from the back."
"Ideally I'd like to see him step and take a spot on the markers and give himself a chance to finish over the top of them."
The Methven Cup is a very even field this year. AG's White Socks, Ultimate Machete and Star Galleria are all class acts and deserve to dominate the betting, but it would not surprise to see an upset in this year's race.
Huey Lewis is the first stable runner today and steps out in the race for the junior drivers, Race Four, with Ben Hope to drive. He has had no luck at all in his last couple of starts. He will need luck from the second line, but if he can get a drag into it at the right time is at least a place hope.
Johnny White is the final runner for the day in the last. He has been in a a really good patch of form and while this is his first start on the grass, he does look a really nice eachway chance with just a little bit of luck.
