A big team to hit the track at Addington tonight
We are just 11 days out from this year's New Zealand Cup and for Alta Orlando (ohoto)and Captain Dolmio, tonight will be their last major test before the big day. Earlier in the night Heisenberg and Stars Tonight will likewise have their final racenight hit-out before the Sires Stakes.
Alta Orlando was so good in the Ashburton Flying Stakes last time out, running a sub-54 second last half in running third. He is right at the top of his game and set for another big run this evening. John is back doing the driving and will be looking forward to combining with what appears the stable's best hope in this year's cup.
Captain Dolmio has not been far away in any of his starts leading into tonight. What he needs to show to best effect is a genuine pace in the race. The sit-sprint style of many of the cup lead-ups is definitely not his go. With a true run race we will hopefully see the best of the "Captain" tonight.
Heisenberg lines up against the likely Sires Stakes favourite Ultimate Sniper, in Race Two. He was brilliant last time out defeating a very good Sires Stakes heat field comfortably. He has been kept relatively fresh going into tonight's race, his biggest issue being the draw (one on the second line). Look for him to be booming home if he gets the luck that he will need.
Stars Tonight takes in another Sires Stakes heat, in Race Five. He too is in great form, but comes up with a problematic draw, drawn in barrier seven, outside three Purdon/Rasmussen runners. He will be looking for a strong run race in order to get his best chance.
Sundees Son in Race Six was an emphatic winner first up at Ashburton. He takes on a nice field of R70-R89 trotters. The key for him early in the race will be the manners, but after stepping so well at Ashburton, hopefully he is a lot more settled this time in. He looks very hard to beat.
Nakuru looks one of the more exciting fillies to come through the stable in recent years and takes in the Sires Stakes heat for the fillies in Race Seven. She has a good draw to work with and looks very hard to beat.
Tyron Bettor's Ella and De Lancome both go around in Race Nine over the 1980m. They are well drawn, but meet some very nice fillies and mares. Both look place chances from the draw.
Woodstone in Race Ten was a very good winner first up at Addington two starts ago. He took on a hot field in the Trotters Mile at Ashburton last time and after a mistake finished well back. If he can re-produce the first up run he is a genuine eachway hope in this field.
The final stable runner is Johnny White in Race Eleven. He is ever consistent, but from the wide draw here will need a lot to go his way.
