Heisenberg and Stars Tonight draw well for Sires Stakes
Unlike our cup horses that have drawn so poorly, for top three year olds Stars Tonight and Heisenberg, the Sires Stakes barrier draw could not have worked out any better, coming up with the two inside barriers. Trainer Robert Dunn could not be any happier with the draw and the progress of the pair heading into the race.
"We haven't had the best of draws with our 17 runners overall but to draw one and two in a Group One, well that's pretty good isn't it."
The lead-up runs for both horses last Friday were very good, further increasing the confidence levels.
"I reallly liked the run of Stars Tonight after having to sit parked three wide the trip. He was entitled to chuck in the towel a long way out but didn't, showing what a nice horse he is."
Stars Tonight looks likely to enjoy a soft run the trip on the markers, definitely the best place to be when the pace is hot. It could be stablemate Heisenberg that he follows for the race, another that went very well on Friday.
"We were really happy with the run and Johnny said that he got home super."
At least nine lengths off lengths off leader Ultimate Sniper at the 400m in that race, Heisenberg closed with real purpose late in the race to run 4th, beaten just over four lengths. Heisenberg has high speed, but is also a great stayer. His Sires Stakes heat win two starts back was emphatic and stamped him as a very nice animal.
With both horses going so well and a pair of great draws, John has a tough decision to make in terms of his drive.
The favourite for the race will be Ultimate Sniper from the powerful Purdon/Rasmussen barn. Unbeaten in his three race starts, he heads a five pronged attack on the race from that stable.
