Billy Badger and Captain Dolmio US bound
Two of the stable's better performed horses over previous seasons - Billy Badger and Captain Dolmio - will continue their careers in the USA. Captain Dolmio has been sold and joins a stable out of Ohio, while Billy Badger will go to New Jersey and link up with Dexter and Chris Ryder.
In what is a bit of a sign of the times, the pair join an ever increasing number of former New Zealanders heading to the States.
Captain Dolmio gathered quite a cult following through a very successful four year old season. Led by his former trainer Matt Brinsdon, the Captain Dolmio syndicate had a ball wherever they went following their pride and joy. Highlights of his career were undoubtably placings in the Group Three Invercargill Cup behind Classie Brigade in a race record of 3.53.5 and a further placing in running second to Heaven Rocks in the Group One Easter Cup. He then spent 15 months on the sideline through injury before returning to the track in August. A third placing behind Dream About Me was his best placing this time in.
Billy Badger is another that has done a great job. From 53 starts, he recorded eight wins, bankrolling over $150,000 in the process. He raced very well through last winter, gaining a Listed Race win in the Uncut Gems over the 2200m in a very smart 2.38.9. He has raced in good fields all the way though this campaign and while never far away was battling to pay his way. Based on advice from Dexter Dunn, Ross and Angela Gordon have sent Billy Badger to New Jersey where Dexter feels he will be very easy to place.
