Alta Maestro and Letspendanitetogetha good chances in even Ashburton Cup
It may not be a large field size wise, but this year's Ashburton Cup field looks one of the more even line-ups seen for a few years. Stable runners Alta Maestro and Letspendanitetogetha look two of the better chances in the race after strong performances at their last start.
Over the 1980m on that occasion, it was Letspendanitetogetha that did work outside the pacemaker and winner Ultimate Machete, while Alta Maestro made ground strongly on the back of a last 800m run in 55 seconds and the last 400m run in 26 seconds.
Both horses are clearly in very good form and it may be luck in the running that ultimately decides this afternoon's feature.
Outside of the stablemates, Funatthebeach and Sheriff look the toughest to beat, but it is one of those races, where you would be loathe to dismiss the chances of any.
Kotare Yolande starts the day off for the stable in Race Two. A three year old Mach Three filly, she has been well prepped for her debut today with a workout and trial win in recent weeks. Today's opposition, on paper at least, appear just an average lot. So Kotare Yolande looks a great chance to kick her career off on a winning note for the Abells.
Spot On in Race Five returns to the scene of his debut win a year ago. His form this campaign has been a bit in and out, but should he be anywhere near his best form today, he must be at least a place hope.
Anytime, Tyron Bettor's Ella and Kensington Kate contest the race for the mares, Race Eight. All three are in form and have good draws from which to work with today. Based on her form in her last two starts, Tyron Bettor's Ella gets the nod today from our three.
