John off to commanding lead in top holiday drivers

Following up from a hat-trick at Ashburton on Sunday, John was again in dominant form at Westport on Day One. He gained a convincing win with the sole stable runner Johnny White as well as a double for Paul Kerr with his pair of Arocknatthepark and Pay Me Swiss.

Arocknatthepark is A Rocknroll Dance three year old and after starting well from a wide draw to lead, always had the advantage over the hotpot on debut Ford Rule. He travelled well throughout and while hotly challenged over the the last 200m by both Tia Dalma and Ford Rule, always had things well in hand, winning like a nice horse.

The second winner for Paul Kerr was Pay Me Swiss in Race Six. The Bettarthancheddar three year old filly was away well off the gate and received a beaut trip on the back of Speciale Uno the trip. The only question was whether the leader would get her to the passing lane, but a safe passage to that point saw her boom through up the rails at the 200m, running away a three and a quarter length winner at the line, in one of the day's most emphatic winning performances.

Johnny White franked a good run of form recently to put in an emphatic winning run in Race Eight. From his wide draw he had to do his share of work early before settling in the back half of the field, one out. Put into the race by John at the 1600m, he was briefly parked, before enjoying a one-one trip for the last lap. Off into the clear at the 300m, he swept to the front and kept up a strong run to the line to hold off the late finisher in Articulight.

Yesterday's win was the 5th of Johnny White's 40 start career and with a further 12 placings he has done a good job this season for the Gordons. He backs up in the same grade tomorrow and while poorly drawn must be considered a big chance in his current form.

John has winning chances at both Westport Friday and Motukarara Saturday and still looks the one they all have to beat in the Hot Holiday Drivers at this stage even at his short $1.85 quote.
