You Really Got Me delivers emphatic maiden win

Three year old trotter You Really Got Me looked one of the nicer two year olds going around last season with a third placing in the Group Three Sires Stakes his season highlight. His winning performance at Methven this afternoon suggests that he will again be competitive in the best company in some of the upcoming features.

A Love You gelding out of the good racemare Rondo - 76 starts, nine wins - You Really Got Me is raced by long-time stable owners Alan and Ian Neumann and friends John Slack and Sue Langdon.

Good enough to race in the Harness Jewels last season, You Really Got Me was having just his second start back in this season. Heavily supported on the first day at Nelson he broke, before putting in a big run. He was again backed into favourite this afternoon and was on his best behaviour.

One of four off the unruly today, You Really Got Me stepped perfectly, but settled in the last few. He was given plenty of time to find his feet by driver John Dunn before getting onto the three wide train from the 1000m. He was brought into the race on the back of Kash Valley on the turn, before pulling out four and five wide with his run. He quickly swept to the front at the 200m and kept up a strong run to the line under his own steam to win by one and a half lengths.

Robert and John will be mapping out a progamme that includes the big features coming up, but an obvious target is the Hambletonian at Ashburton on February 23.
